This came up in conversation last night, this spy case is something I remember well, but rarely any Canadian ever discusses or knows about.
💢 The Margaret Thatcher Era Interceptions
“In his 1994 whistleblowing book Spy World, former Communications Security Establishment (CSE) agent Mike Frost revealed that Canadian agents were used to circumvent British laws preventing the UK government from spying on its own citizens. According to Frost, British intelligence requested that Canada’s CSE eavesdrop on two dissenting British MPs who opposed Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s policies. By having a foreign ally like Canada intercept the communications and hand over the data, British intelligence was able to monitor domestic politicians without violating internal restrictions.”
