I wasn’t sure what was happening with Horațiu Potra’s mercenaries in the DRC since he’s been very publicly meddling in Romanian elections and politics and getting arrested. Voila, yesterday’s news, his contractors are in the DRC and continue to operate.
My understanding is that Potra’s company called ‘Congo Protection’ works with the PMC Bulgarian company Agemira, owned by French businessman Olivier Bazin.
Romanian Journal — 27 Jan 2025, ‘MAE: Romanian citizens stranded in North Kivu province of Congo’: The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that “a significant group” of Romanian citizens is stranded in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in a conflict zone where the government army is now under pressure from a rebel group. According to PressOne, these are Romanian mercenaries, contracted by Horațiu Potra.

Potra has become very political in Romania– although IMHO he’s out of his element in this– and has been getting into a lot of trouble lately.

*As a side, I’ll bet that among the M23 rebels are Rwandans of the Rwandan army covertly pretending to be rebels. Also, just looking at the rebels, you can see they are well-equipped.
