It was an honour to be invited to a Mackenzie Institute dinner on Wednesday at the Royal Canadian Military Institute (RCMI) to meet and hear Hungary’s Dr. Márton Ugrósdy speak.
Dr. Márton Ugrósdy was Hungary’s former Deputy State Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister’s Political Director
‘Dr. Márton Ugrósdy is a prominent Hungarian foreign policy expert, diplomat, and political scientist.’ He served ‘as the Deputy State Secretary in the Office of the former Prime Minister’s Political Director (Balázs Orbán Orbán) in Hungary, focusing on geopolitics, European Union dynamics, and international relations.’
He was ‘responsible for preparing analytical and background briefing materials pertaining to the most recent developments of geopolitics, the internal dynamics of the European Union, as well as the activities of various key players in foreign affairs for the Prime Minister and the PM’s Political Director.’
He also served ‘as the Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Advisory Council.’
Ugrósdy covered a wide range of topics at the dinner, often speaking from experience and his own insights, including comments on the budgetary and financial challenges the EU is facing at the moment.
He and I spoke briefly about a couple of defence industry challenges in Europe, Canada, and the US. I shared some insights with him from both the Canadian and US sides of the industry. Of course, Ugrósdy is well aware of some of the defence industrial realities and hurdles that exist in Europe and within NATO.
